What Boys Smell Like

After baseball on a hot summer night, Julius and I had the following conversation:

J: You know what that smell is, Mom?

Me: No, what is it?

J: It's my natural stink. I like my natural stink. I think it smells good.

Me: You do? Really?

J: Mmmhmm.

Me: What does your natural stink smell like?

J: It's what boys smell like.

Me: What do boys smell like?

J: Well, like frog pee.

I'm also writing over at Spread Change today, trying to help a family.

  3. Out of the mouth of babes! That is precious!

  4. This is one of the best kid quotes I've ever heard. In case you were wondering, my son smells like wet sand. My sister used to smell like cornflakes. Those are good smells. But I once dated a man who smelled like couch, and that was most definitely NOT pleasant.

  5. Frog pee? Good lord, but that is probably one of the most accurate estimations of man musk I've ever heard. Pop your head into a crowded men's room at a ballpark for clarification.

Oh, and I didn't comment on your last entry about Julian, simply because things have been pretty intense around here. Know that you and yours were in our thoughts over here in Texas, and give us a link to click so we can donate some clams to research!

Anyway, we've been having Interesting Times over here, and I've just posted a bit about it in my latest entry. Come and check it out, and give me some of your sage wisdom. Do ugly divorces and uncooperative dads ever get any better?

    Always with all the best,

  12. Remember in A Fish Called Wanda when Kevin Cline keeps smelling under his own arms?

  13. Do you think that young frogs think that they smell like boys? Not that I've ever smelt frog pee, but there is now an urge to find out. If you hear of a mad woman being arrested in the UK for smelling frogs, it's me.

  15. I don't know why I feel more stunned ar your kid admitting: he has a "natural stink" or that he knows what frog pee smells like 0_0

  23. Having memories of days spent exploring creeks in rural Iowa, I remember coming up smelling like frog pee, and finding it not the least bit bad.

Dunno how I'd take to it today, though ;)

I swear to God!!! I have a girlfriend, Angela, who has 2 boys and one of them has been on a "fag" kick for nearly 2 yrs. It just does not matter what the thing, or issue, or person, happens to be. If it displease him, tells him 'no', looks at him crosseyed, makes him do chores, or generally ticks him off --- it/he/she/them/God/his brother/his mother's friends/his teachers/whatever is genuine FAG.

I hate the word and its connotations but this child has put a whole new meaning to the word and no one sees any point in trying to explain to him what is what since, well, we know what it would be anyhow.
