How You Know a Girl Likes You

I picked up Tristan at daycare. We sat in the car a moment waiting for a dad to move out of the way of our car so I didn't plow over him and his adorable baby daughter.

Tristan says, "Dat's Candy. I wike her and she wikes me."

"Yeah? That's nice."

"She wikes me and she wikes Twevor."

I always try to make conversation with Tristan because he likes to talk and for a long time didn't really have anything much to say. It's been fun lately because we can actually have a two-way conversation. Good times.

"So, she is your friend then?"

"Yes, she wikes me cause she wicked my hand."

This is a new thing, I guess.  When I was a kid you know a girl liked you when she punched you. But now it's looking like a girl likes you if she licks your hand.

"She licked your hand? And that's how you know she likes you?" (It's always good to clarify.)

"Uh huh. She wikes me. She wicked my hand. Das how she wikes me."

  1. I love these conversations. Kids are so funny. I need to start writing down some of the things my boys come up with. The other day in the car, Tyler said "I like this song daddy. It makes my ears dance."

  2. Yup. I would say that's a pretty clear indication that someone likes you.

  4. As in "I like you so much I trust that you don't have flu virus or any other nasty things on your hand." ?

  5. Especially considering how dirty my boys get. Yesterday they spent much of the day outside with their dad working on a small construction project we have going. Julius came in and told me Tristan was outside eating dirt with a fork. He should have a heckuvan immune system. :)

  6. I don't remember punching boys, or licking them. But one called me four-eyes in 2nd grade . . . do you think he liked me?

  7. I love this story. I have one a bit more embarassing....my daughter when she was about three or may be a bit younger...kept lifting her dress over her head...I kept telling her to pull down her dress and quit showing off her underwear...especially to the little boy she was playing with who happened to have one of those battery-operated cars that a child could sit in...My daughter said, "Why not? He has a car." I don't know where she learned this, but I was hoping it was daycare...then, I could blame it on others.

  13. Makes sense to this mother of a 3 year old boy. That's why we keep lots of hand sanitizer around ;-).

  14. Hey! I just want you to know I'm still reading every couple of days but I don't very often have anything smart to say. Kind of like at a school dances when you are 13. So, er, do you like spaceships?

  15. Finally, now that I'm 65, I get the answer to the perennial question that haunted my teenage years, How Do You Know If A Girl Like You?

I did find out many years ago what attracts a girl. My 6 yer old daughter spilled the beans (so to speak).

She told me proudly that she liked Jason because he had all his marbles.

  16. Aw! And it sounds right to me. My Hank says that they are always trying to kiss each other in the three year-old class, but the teachers don't let 'em. Dang swine flu!

  18. If only I'd known how to tell that a boy liked me that easily. Life would have been so much easier.

  19. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong?
