Small Town Snapshot Sunday #12

It's Small Town Snapshot Sunday! Read the rules and get the banners here. Be sure you include the link to your post at the bottom of this entry and also, tag your post "stss" or "small town snapshot sunday" so people can search for it and find you!

This week I had the opportunity to go to Mountain View and spend some time photographing Blanchard Springs. There is no possible way to do the place justice. I don't see how landscape photographers do it. Each picture I took just looked like a plain old snapshot of nothing too special, so I ended up just picking detail shots for my selection. The hills looked small, the creek looked narrow. I just never could get it.

However, enjoy the rest! I'll be doing a two-part STSS this time around. Part One (today) will be the creek. Part Two (next week) I'll post shots of the trip back.

This is the bridge right before the swimming area. We went through the small town of Mountain View (about 2300 people) which is an idyllic, fabulous place nestled in a gorgeous valley.

Enjoy your Sunday, no matter where you are!

  2. These are wonderful pictures. I'm envious of your talent for spotting thing like the insects in the water.

If I was to take a picture today, all you'd see is rain. It's pouring here!

  3. Good Morning Wendy~ I've got some good shots of a sunken boat here in Maysville but, I'm busy today so I will have to post later this evening or tomorrow. Hope that's okay.

BTW, love your shots. I think it looks like a nice place to hang out. I think sometimes the photos of the professionals are photoshopped to get that extraordinary look. I struggle with the same issues as yourself in trying to capture that great shot. Have a great day.

  4. Nice captures! The dragon fly and the bucket in the water are my favorites. :)

Well, I did it. I bought a camera. Only it isn't digital. But that's OK because I got a really great deal -- $60 for the camera, filters, three lenses, two rolls of film, tripod, case, and manual. It's only two years old and barely used. She (a friend of mine) just upgraded to a digital camcorder and hated to see this beauty collecting dust. Yay for me! She mailed it yesterday so by Tuesday I should be snapping away! Now, I just need to take the time to figure out my scanner and I'll be in business. I will be joining you for Small Town Snapshot Sunday next week! So excited!

Holy moly 656 followers. How do you cope with the pressure? lol Lurve you. xox

  6. I love the pictures! Sometimes I come home from an excursion of photo taking and when I view them I am disappointed because I didn't quite capture the beauty of the place. But then I hit on a couple of great shots and pump my fist in the air, "YES!" You have the eye for photography - many people would have missed those special shots - the dragonfly on the rock, the blue bucket, the butterfly in the center of the tube, the bugs in the water. That's REALLY looking and seeing things through a photographer's eye. You've got the gift, girl!

  9. Just learned about your small town snapshots project. What a cool idea!

  10. Well, I finally got STSS posted.

All my posts could be STSS since I live in a small town and that's where I take most of my pictures. I'll try to come up with some "special" for the Sunday posts. Thanks for the invite!

  11. I think you REALLY live where we live. This looks just like our surrounding areas. Great photos.

    Have a great week,

  14. Now how did you get that butterfly to cooperate like that? :)

  15. Shawn, I think those are short-legged water striders. They are not the pond striders I am accustomed to seeing, so I'm thinking this is the moving-water version since this was a creek. Or maybe they are babies. They were clumped up really close to the shoreline. Cute little fellers anyway.

Sara, I thought that butterfly was injured and stuck in the tube but when I got over there close he got out of there FAST and went to sit on a little boys head for a while. So cute.

Everyone, thank you thank you. I'm trying to make the rounds tonight on all your Sundays! :)

  17. Nicely done,,, I mentioned in other response that I too enjoy photograpy. I am kinda "cameraly challenged", I still use 35 mm film, but think i might like a digital camera. Would it be polite to ask what kind of camera you were using.. :) thanks glenrose

  18. Was this Mountain View, Ar?
I loved the dragonfly pic btw!

  19. Glenrose: I have a Nikon D80 digital SLR, but probably what's more important than that is what type of lens you use. You can get some great results with a cheaper camera and a better lens. There are many digital SLR web sites around that can advise you on what type of camera is good for your particular shooting needs.

Gertrude: Mountain View, AR, yep! :)
