One Up

Part of the problem with being an OLD parent (or as I prefer to call it, a "late bloomer") is that you're sometimes a tired, fuddy duddy parent.

The other day Rob and I were both worn to a frazzle and we had to go do something with the kids that required actual physical energy. Rob was sitting on the edge of the bed watching me get ready.

"My back is really bothering me today for some reason," I said idly. I was softly prepping him to be the one to lift Tristan into the car seat.

He suspected as much, I think, and said, "My back hurts, too."

Me: My back hurt first.

Him: No, I don't think so. I'm older than you, so my back has been hurting a lot longer.

Me: Seriously, my back hurt before we even had kids. In fact, my back hurt when *I* was a kid.

Him: Well, I hurt my back before I was even born. In the womb my back was hurting.

Me: My back hurt in my last life.

Him: My back hurt in the life before my last life.

Me: Well, when I created God who created the Universe, my back was already hurting.

Him: You know the Big Bang? That sound was my back going out.

I laughed and said, "Okay, you win."

Why does this sound so familiar? Yours must be my previous lifetime when my back was hurting!

Wendy, a hearty salute from one old parent (soon to be grandpa for the first time in November) to another!! Well done, and very funny.

Thankfully neither of you skipped a step and jumped to "triple dog dare you." That would've totally ruined it.

LOL!
If I ever have a kid, I know I'll be a late bloomer since I'm hitting 30 and I'm no where close to having a baby for a long while.
This gives me something to look forward to. nice. lol

I read a Blog that's full of someone's daily life. It's always...charming and gracious and so...clean. No mud or smells or backaches. No crazy scissor ladies or weird neighbors. I think it's all made up *L*
Thanks for sharing a REAL life with humor and making me laugh so much.

Oh this seriously made me laugh out loud. He definitely won, there was simply no where else for you to go!

too silly!

but you can tell Rob that sound doesn't carry in space so there was no "sound" of his back breaking . . . so WENDY WINS ;)

Rob certainly won this playful argument. I had to laugh at his last answer. That was good. Have a great day.

Thanks for the laughs ~ I'm a relatively young grandma (but older parent to my 14 yr. old, M)and I find myself doing this kind of thing with my 14 yr. old daughter. Me ~ M, will you change babykins' diaper? M ~ I can't, my back's hurting from P's b-day party at "Pump it Up". See? We can't win!

Oh, woman! And so it goes in our house, too. About our aching backs, pounding heads and tired selves. No one ever wins. We just go round and round.

Can't beat the Big Bang. Great way to argue. If your back hurts, may as well have fun deciding the origins of the pain.

my goodness, i thought I was watching one of our old home movies.,,

That is hysterical. :D hehehe Although, I think technically you could argue that if the big bang was the creation of the universe, you previously stated that you created god who created the universe (the big bang), you still win. Not the point of course, I love hilarious exchanges like that. Awesome. :)

What, no bargaining?!

Doesn't it, just a little, make you proud of your husband that he was such a worthy adversary?

That was cute!

This is so becoming my last word in all arguments from now on. How can anyone argue with that?
